What measures should be taken when using formic acid?
1. Staff protection
Respiratory protection: if the concentration of formic acid in the air exceeds the limit, the staff should be equipped with professional masks.
Skin contact: wear rubber gloves, acid proof overalls (aprons) and rubber boots. Safety shower and eye washing equipment should be set up in the workplace.
Eyes: professional wear chemical splash proof glasses.
2. Emergency first aid in case of accident
Skin contact: take off the contaminated clothes immediately, wash the skin contact parts with plenty of water, and seek medical advice in time.
Eye contact: open the eyelids, rinse the affected eyes with normal saline or mild water for 20 minutes, and seek medical advice.
Inhalation after leakage: get out of the contaminated area of formic acid and move the patient to a fresh and well ventilated place. If breathing stops, perform artificial respiration and call a doctor immediately.
3. Storage and transportation
Store in a cool, dry and ventilated place. Keep away from heat source and fire, avoid direct sunlight, store and transport away from oxidant and alkali. Transport using professional transport equipment, transport personnel equipped with professional protective equipment.
Professional personnel wear professional protective equipment to absorb or absorb formic acid leaked on the ground with sand or other non combustible materials. The ground can also be sprinkled with soda ash and washed with a large amount of water, and the water will be guided for treatment to prevent groundwater pollution. If the leakage is too large, the leaked liquid must be collected, transferred and treated to prevent secondary pollution.
